The reverse ram design continued into this type right up until the introduction of decimal currency with the conclusion of the shilling series in 1963. This type features a slightly reworded obverse legend, ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F:D ('Elizabeth II, by the grace of god, queen, defender of the faith'), due to the public outcry that the previous type omitted FIDEI DEF ('defender of the faith').Several mint rolls have appeared from all dates in the 1960s, a few 1959 rolls, and a substantial hoard of 1957 shillings has turned up (Pacific Rim Coins, 2002) . All other dates are quite scarce, especially if sought in the upper mint state grades; the 1955 and 1956 usually have a price to match. The 1958 is another elusive date, however, when it does turn up it tends to average much higher than the earlier years. All dates in the series were struck at the Melbourne Mint and do not display any mintmarks.
